Taped feature

Video Analytics

Know exactly who watched — names, watch time, and the exact moments they skipped.

Every video on Taped measures itself. From the moment someone presses play — on a share link, playlist episode, embed, or dashboard preview — playback is tracked automatically with no setup. Open Dashboard → Analytics to see views, unique viewers, total and average watch time, and completion rates across Today, Last 7 days, Last 30 days, or All time — then drill into any video for its retention curve and a who-watched list that identifies logged-in viewers by name and email. For client work, it answers the questions that matter before every follow-up: did your client watch the video, how much did they watch, and which portion did they rewatch or skip.

Why it matters

What analytics gives you

Exactly who watched, by name

Logged-in viewers appear with their name, email, sessions, total watch time, and completion status. Anonymous viewers are counted separately with their own watch history — no one watches invisibly.

Know if your client watched

Send a proposal walkthrough, demo, or onboarding video and stop guessing. See whether your client opened it, how much they watched, and which portion they replayed or skipped — then follow up with specifics instead of “just checking in”.

Views, viewers & watch time

Track total views, unique viewers (logged-in vs anonymous split), total and average watch time, and completion rate for your whole library or any single video.

Retention heatmap & drop-offs

A 20-segment retention chart shows which parts of each video get watched, rewatched, or skipped — with automatic callouts for the steepest drop-off and the most-watched moment.

Today, 7 days, 30 days, all time

Switch ranges instantly. Daily stats are pre-aggregated as viewing happens, so even all-time reports over your full library load fast.

Device, source & country breakdowns

See whether viewers watch on desktop or mobile, whether they came from share pages, embeds, or dashboard previews, and which countries they watch from.

Zero setup, everywhere

Tracking is built into every player — share pages, playlist episodes, embeds, and dashboard previews report automatically. Bots and crawlers are filtered out, so numbers reflect real viewers.

How to use it

Get started in minutes

  1. Host and share a video

Upload or record a video, then share it selectively, publicly, or as purchasable content. Tracking starts on its own — nothing to install or configure.

  2. Viewers press play

Each playback opens a session that records watch time, position, and completion. Logged-in viewers are identified automatically; everyone else counts as an anonymous viewer.

  3. Open Dashboard → Analytics

See library-wide KPIs, performance trends, and a per-video leaderboard ranked by views, watch time, viewers, or completions.

  4. Drill into any video

Open a video's analytics for its retention heatmap, trend chart, breakdowns, and the full who-watched table — every viewer, their watch time, and how much they finished.

Answers, upfront

Video Analytics — FAQs

How do I see exactly who watched my video?

Open the video in your dashboard and go to Analytics (or Dashboard → Analytics → Details). The who-watched table lists every viewer: logged-in viewers show their name and email with sessions, total watch time, percentage watched, and completion status; anonymous viewers appear as separate anonymous entries with the same watch stats.

Do viewers need a Taped account to be tracked?

No. Anyone who presses play is counted. Viewers who are logged in are identified by name and email; viewers who are not logged in are tracked as anonymous viewers with a stable per-browser identity, so repeat anonymous views are still counted correctly.

What counts as a view?

A view is one playback session started by pressing play. Scrubbing, pausing, and rewatching all accrue to that session's watch time, and reaching 90% of the video marks it completed. Bots, crawlers, and backgrounded tabs don't inflate the numbers.

Are embedded videos tracked too?

Yes. Share pages, playlist episodes, dashboard previews, and embedded players all report to the same analytics, and the source breakdown shows you exactly how much each channel contributes.

How can I use analytics for client follow-ups?

Share the video selectively with your client's email so their viewing is identified. You'll see whether they watched, how much they finished, and portion-level retention showing what they replayed or skipped. Time your follow-up to actual engagement — and open with what they cared about, e.g. the pricing section they watched three times — instead of a generic check-in.
